Celebratory News on Complete Delivery of Main Structures for LNG Canada Project

On 9th of June, the last shipment of main structures for LNG Canada Project was completed and delivered from Zhongshan, which marked USSL's successful fulfillment in complete delivery of all main steel structures for this project.

 

 

The LNG Canada Project is the biggest energy investment project in Canada. It's also ranked as the biggest investment project by private-owned enterprise in Canada. After commercial operation which is expected to be achieved in 2024, the natural gas resources in Canada will be sold to principal countries of consumption in Asia, such as China, Japan, etc. As a key player for major international steel structures projects in recent years, USSL undoubtedly took a significant place for this important project.

 

Strong comprehensive strength was the key factor for USSL to win this order. In 2010, USSL obtained CWB qualification, which is deemed as admission card for steel structure suppliers and/or export enterprise to enter Canada market. USSL successfully passed preliminary audit conducted for this project. During formal tender stage, USSL stood out among all international competitors by attractive past project performance, reasonable price and extraordinary project planning scheme.

 

The project was officially started since the first cut on 10th of March, 2020. During project execution period of fifteen months, USSL suffered from serious impacts caused by COVID-19, but eventually realized timely delivery for every structure with effective measures and elaborate planning.

The high evaluation from Customer once again proved strong capability of USSL in the field of steel structure fabrication.

 

Superior Quality!

 

The construction site of LNG Canada Project is located in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada, which is high altitude area. To meet working condition with temperature below 30℃, stringent welding standard of CSA W47.1 and CSA W59-18 shall be complied with for this project. This put forward higher requirements on selection of welding consumables, welding technology and welder level. By careful check and study on all technical specifications and optimized operation in welding procedure, USSL realized one-time pass for all weld inspections.

 

Meanwhile, the requirements for fabrication precision was also very high, especially for the flatness of floor deck plate after welding. With dimension of 17m * 25m, the overall levelness of floor deck plate with thickness of 6mm shall reach ±5mm after built-up and welding with main structure truss. For roof pan cake structure, the height of each main girder and profile dimension shall be in strict accordance with drawings.To ensure one-time accuracy of the dimensions of all post-welded components, our engineers optimized construction process through 3D modeling and simulation construction. Finally, The End User realized 100% assembly of the components in place at one time during the final assembly.

 

 

Punctual Delivery!

 

The full delivery of this project consisted of 27 shipments, all of which were in accordance with required delivery schedule.

 

At the beginning of 2020, procurement activities and work force were severely impeded by COVID-19 outbreak. To mitigate negative effects on project execution, USSL took initiative to reach agreement with steel mills for timely delivery. At the same time, prevention and control measures were implemented to guarantee scheduled kick-off in March. In addition, USSL also made reasonable manpower planning to ensure project schedule.

Due to COVID-19, the design company in India under taking detailing work for this project encountered big difficulty to catch up with the detailing schedule. On this occasion, USSL offered to under take modeling and detailing work for 3# and 4# modules. This action greatly relieved pressure of design company, and meanwhile displayed soft strength of USSL in steel structure fabrication.
